The Lord is my Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

As I thought of this and read it this morning I was taken back to a beautiful memory that I think is worth sharing. When Matt and I were at BYU-Idaho, we met during a production of "Savior of the World", a musical play that goes through the Savior's birth, burial, and resurrection. It was a wonderful experience (not only because we met each other there). We both had the chance to be angels, usually in the catwalks, all dressed in black, only there to add to the angelic chorus. There were a few times that I got to be a "stage angel," dress in white, and appear to the shepherds to announce the Savior's birth. What an experience! I will never forget the looks on their faces as the lights came up on us and we began singing. Awe, and surpirse, and fear, and joy. It was such amazing news!

Prior to our appearance, they are gathered around a fire and sing s hymn: "The Lord is My Shepherd." I'm sure everyone has their favorite arrangement of the text, but if you haven't heard the one from "Savior of the World" I think you can get it through the LDS distribution center. And it is probably my favorite.

The Lord is our Shepherd. He has come. He will come again. And that is good news.
