If we were Valentines…
Our newest Valentine would be represented with Calvin and Hobbes!!!
Just kidding! Despite popular request we decided against naming our son Calvin Ball. Instead, our “little” boy will be the Hulk. Entering the world in October at nine pounds and three ounces, Benson Karl Ball has continued to grow big and strong. Just past his three-month birthday he was rolling from back to tummy and hasn’t stopped since. He is at a point where he almost can’t help rolling over when laid down. (Note: His temper is much more subdued than his comic representative. Any outbursts are always forgiven when he puts himself to sleep!)
It’s a good thing baby boy is so tough, too. Our next Valentine, the innocent Princess Brooklyn, loves him very enthusiastically! When she is not smothering him (sometimes literally) with affection, she is smiling at him, bringing him toys (every toy in the house if she can), and doing whatever goofy thing she can to make him (and us) laugh.
This princess also enjoys almost all animals, from dogs (her favorite) to the lobsters at the grocery store. She loves our weekly trips to the library, playgroup, “preschool,” and nursery! I have been amazed at how much she is learning not just about letters but also things like washing her own hands, sharing, and forgiving. Some of the cute things she is saying lately are “I think so” (this follows just about any statement), “Ohhh-kaaaay. I gueeeess so” (who knew that started when they were two – I guess when they’re older it just changes to no!), and almost any song she has heard more than once (even “All Creatures of Our God and King,” which she picked up at ward choir). She is turning into a lively and loving little girl that brings us all joy.
Matt and Anslin are sending out Peanuts valentines featuring Schroeder and Lucy. Monday through Saturday, Schroeder represents Matt, diligently pursuing his career while the admiring Lucy (Anslin) watches from a distance and plans their lives together. On Sundays, they switch places while Anslin has been behind the organ or in front of the choir at church, Matt pining for her attention (and her help with the kids).
Matt is enjoying his second year of medical school though we are all looking forward to the summer when he starts the final two “rotation” years. We hope this means a more normal work schedule and, therefore, more time with us!
After surviving her first full Arizona summer (while pregnant), Anslin is still here enjoying motherhood and getting involved in any musical project she can. Her two piano students, two kids, and husband keep her busy and happy.
