You can show this to your kids to explain my last comment.

We finally made it to my brother's house in Everett and started settling in. Three days later ... how is it that it takes so long to get comfortable on vacation? Ben and Stacy welcomed us with loving arms, which is evidence of their goodness as we must have seemed like zombies. It was, after all, after 9 in Ohio. Their kids were in bed when we got there but wasted no time the next morning introducing our kids to the joys of their lives, mainly finger knitting! The next two days were filled with new finger-knit creations (rings, bracelets, necklaces, scarves, and even a belt, which turned into a purse strap) as well as plans for a thriving finger-knit business! Place your order today!

My Aunt Martha and cousin Rusty, with his wife and daughter came for dinner that night. Amidst all the joking about our shady family history, I felt so grateful to be in company with such funny people. The Polish Kielbasa Stacy made was great and the laughter was equally delicious.

Laundry ... hair cuts ... re-organizing suitcases ... playing with cousins (lots of finger-knitting!) ...

Tuesday! We went to the beach. We decided to go to a close one with easy access. It turns out carrying an infant car seat with a sleeping one-year-old in it for a mile was not Matt's main idea of easy access but we made it. He even had a good time running on the wet sand and sinking in what is often below water. We found crabs, alive and dead, barnacles, and even a shrimp. It is interesting how wildlife makes an outing so much more magical. Rightly so, I think. We should never lose our wonder for life.
