A vacation!!!! Yay!!!!! We're trying hard not to despair that it is ending.
It's not working very well. I'm actually not sure I've ever seen Matt as depressed as he's been since we've been home. He's ok but continues to express how wonderful family is and how sad he is that we can't see them more often. He may have even shed a few tears in Elder's Quorum (but don't tell his fellow elders).
It was a wonderful vacation and it's ending should be mourned. I'll try to recount it sufficiently.
It started like all of our family vacations must start these days - with lots of travel! We got a smoking deal on airfare .... from Cleveland so our delightful four hour flight started with a two hour car ride. Matt studied pathology ('cause that's what everyone wants to do on vacation right?) and the kids and I listened to a book on tape. It's a good thing our trip was great because we were so close to the end, if we hadn't been distracted we would have been wondering the whole time "What happened to Conn???!!!!!!!" Read The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas to find out for yourself!
Six carry-ons, one suitcase, and four car seats later we were on a shuttle to the airport where, six carry-ons, one suitcase, and four car seats later we were checked in. We even managed to get through TSA and onto the plane with all six carry-ons (and all four kids). Victory!
If you've ever flown with kids, you're as crazy as we are (a guy at the airport actually said that to us: "Are you guys crazy?" Probably, sir. Probably.). So, if you've ever been that crazy you know what our next four hours were like. But armed with an adorable, waving baby we managed to avoid most dirty looks and the wrath of the flight attendants. If you've never flown with kids, just sit in a thin seat and have someone do anything to the back of the chair and you'll get a taste of what its like. Brooklyn had a great time because she got to take a "walk." Up and down the aisle of the airplane is maybe stretching the definition of a walk but it kept us all sane.
Somehow, the details are fuzzy to me know (perhaps I've blocked them from my mind), we retrieved the 6 carry-ons, 1 suitcase, four car seats, and four kids and got them into the rental van. Another victory! Since it costs an arm and a leg to have multiple drivers, thus began the saga of Anslin's Washington Chauffeur Service. Would I get through the week alive? With the van in one piece? Don't go away! Find out after these messages! (that phrase dates me like nothing else - please explain it to your children)
